The APEGGA Education Foundation
Scholarships
The
Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists
of Alberta allocates over $100,000 annually to acknowledge the academic
excellence of students studying engineering and geosciences. Annually
APEGGA transfers over $80,000 to the APEGGA
Education Foundation. This Foundation uses these funds to award
the exisitng APEGGA scholarships. One
of the mandates of the foundation is to support those activities
of APEGGA which are aimed at enhancing the education and development
of its members and potential members.

University Entrance Scholarship
APEGGA
offers
12 scholarships
to Alberta high school graduates entering the Faculty of Engineering
or the Department of Geology or Geophysics at the University of
Alberta or University of Calgary; or entering other universities
or colleges in Alberta offering transfer programs in these disciplines.
The scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, are awarded on the basis
of a combination of factors. An initial assessment is done on the
basis of Grade 12 marks. The top 30 are then evaluated on the basis
of extra curricular activities, three letters of reference, financial
need and the student's statement outlining the reasons for entering
the profession.

Transfer Scholarships
APEGGA offers one scholarship, for each school listed
below, to students completing an engineering, geological and geophysical
technology program and who are continuing their studies in an engineering,
geology or geophysics program at the University of Alberta or the
University of Calgary. The scholarships, valued at $2,000, are awarded
on the basis of academic achievement.

Undergraduate Scholarships
APEGGA offers six scholarships of $2,000 each to
students at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary,
listed below is their selection criteria. APEGGA
provides endowment funds for the University of Alberta and the University
of Calgary for the Undergraduate Scholarships, they manage the funds
and provide the awards from the proceeds.

Gold Medals
APEGGA provides endowment funds for the University
of Alberta and the University of Calgary for the Gold Medals. The
universities manage the funds and provide the awards from the proceeds.
The medals are awarded to the highest undergraduating average in
geology, geophysics and engineering Programs accredited by the Canadian
Engineering Accreditation Board.
Undergraduate/Graduate Scholarships
The APEGGA Alberta Research Council
Professional Staff Association Scholarship
APEGGA offers one scholarship annually to a mature
individual who is registered as a part-time third or fourth year
undergraduate or graduate or graduate student, in an engineering,
geology or geophysics program at the University of Alberta or the
University of Calgary. The scholarship is valued at $750 and awarded
on the basis of marks, dedication and financial need.

Graduate Scholarships
APEGGA offers two scholarships annually to professional
members of APEGGA undertaking a graduate program in engineering,
geology or geophysics at the University of Alberta and University
of Calgary. The scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, are awarded
on the basis of the relevance of the thesis to the applicants work
experience and career aspirations and on the benefits that will
accrue to the Alberta economy as a result of the research. Applicants
shall have been accepted into the first year of a full time graduate
program. Should there be no applicants entering first year, consideration
will be given to candidates entering second year.
The scholarships are known as the APEGGA R.M. Hardy Graduate Scholarships
in honour of Dr. Hardy, P.Eng., renowned engineer and educator,
who was Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of
Alberta.

Education Scholarships
APEGGA offers six scholarships to individuals who
are within two years of achieving a B.Ed. and a B.Sc. degree in
mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, geology or geophysics.
This may take the form of combined dual degree or a degree after.
The $2,000 scholarships for each of two years are given to teachers
or prospective teachers who, in the opinion of the interview panel,
will "fire the imagination" of the student in mathematics,
physics or chemistry. Applicants who are short listed will be asked
to attend an interview in Calgary or Edmonton when they will be
expected to make a ten minute presentation on a topic of their choice.
The
scholarships will be named in honour of the current year's Teacher
Award winners who will be selected for teaching excellence in the
field of mathematics and science.
