REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL TECHNOLOGIST GEOLOGICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL– R.P.T. (Geol.) and R.P.T. (Geoph.)


 

As an R.P.T. (Geol.) or R.P.T. (Geoph.) you are licensed to independently practice geology or geophysics in Alberta within a clearly defined scope of practice.

What criteria do I have to meet?

To become licensed as a Registered Professional Technologist (Geological) or R.P.T. (Geophysical) you must:

1. Have at least 2 years of post-secondary education acceptable to the APEGGA Board of Examiners in areas that relate to the science or technology of geology or geophysics;
2. Have at least 6 years of experience in work of an geological or geophysical nature that is acceptable to the APEGGA Board of Examiners, at least two of which are in the defined scope of practice and which were completed under the supervision and control of a Professional Member, and at least one year of your experience must be equivalent Canadian experience;
3. Be of good character and reputation;
4. Demonstrate knowledge of law, ethics and professionalism by passing the National Professional Practice Examination;
5. Meet the English Language Competency requirement.

How do I apply for my license?

To apply for your license you must submit a completed Application for Registration Form together with the required accompanying documents and application fee to APEGGA.

The Application for Registration Form and related explanatory materials are available online at the bottom of this page. In the alternative, a paper version of the application package may be obtained through the Calgary or Edmonton APEGGA offices.

Completing Your Forms

Most of the forms below are available in PDF format which allows you to view and fill in your your form electronically on most computers. (The freely available Adobe Acrobat reader is required to view and print PDF files.) Once you have completed the form, print the form page. 

You should then sign the form, enclose any fee that is required and mail or fax the signed form to APEGGA.

For your own records you should also print out a copy of any form you send in.

Effective November 3, 2004, APEGGA will no longer accept reference questionnaires from generic email addresses such as yahoo and hotmail. We cannot ensure the authenticity of email messages from these addresses.
