APEGGA Announces 2001 Education Foundation Scholarships
Following are 2001 scholarships awarded by the APEGGA Education
Foundation.
APEGGA presents 12 awards of $2,000 to students entering the faculties
of engineering or the departments of geology and geophysics at The
University of Alberta, The University of Calgary or colleges in
Alberta offering transfer programs.

APEGGA EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Each recipient receives $2,000 per year for two years. The scholarships
are intended for individuals who hold a bachelor's degree in science
or education to return to university to obtain a second degree,
or to help those obtaining combined degrees in science and education.
Elizabeth Hay
Attending the University of Alberta
Obtaining a Bachelor of Education/ Bachelor of Science combined
degree majoring in mathematical science.

Obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree with a specialty
in Science Education.Ms. Huzil currently holds a Bachelor

APEGGA R. M. HARDY GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
The APEGGA Education Foundation offers two scholarships, valued
at $2,000 annually to professional members of APEGGA undertaking
a graduate program in engineering, geology or geophysics at the
University of Alberta and University of Calgary. The award is named
in honour of the late R.M. Hardy, a former dean of engineering at
the University of Alberta.
Daniel Nugent, E.I.T., is pursuing
a masters of science degree mechanical and environmental engineering
at the University of Calgary. Mr. Nugent is researching and
developing a new type of practical renewable energy system,
the solar air heater. An air solar heater is pollution free
and easy to operate and maintain, thereby helping Alberta
adhere and surpass pollution reductions. Mr. Nugent currently
has a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the
University of Calgary.

APEGGA Alberta Research Council Professional Staff Association
Scholarship
APEGGA offers one scholarship annually to a mature student registered
as a part-time third- or fourth-year undergraduate or graduate student,
in an engineering, geology or geophysics program at the University
of Alberta or the University of Calgary. The scholarship is valued
at $750 and will be awarded on the basis of marks, dedication and
financial need.
