Appointments Announced
Of APEGGA Public Members

The provincial government has named Judy Williams as a Public Member of APEGGA

Council for a three-year term and has reappointed Stan Souch, PhD, for another year.

Ms. Williams, who is the sole owner of the Solution Group, a Calgary-based communications management consulting firm, formerly served as a public representative with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. She replaces Michael Stevens-Guille Public, an APEGGA Public Member since 1997.

Dr. Souch, a resident of Edmonton, is a former president of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and has varied experience as an educator -- including as a public school teacher, university lecturer and administrator. He also has served as assistant deputy minister of Alberta Department of Advanced Education and Manpower.

Judy Williams has previously been employed as an assistant vice-president of TELUS Corporation, as a senior communications officer with the Calgary Regional Health Authority, and as executive director of the Petroleum Communication Foundation. She is actively involved in the community and has served as member of the Management Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Business at the University of Calgary.

The third Public Member of APEGGA Council, Hugh Planche, was appointed in 1999. Public Members of Council provide an outside perspective during Council deliberations and actively engage in Council debates and votes.

Several government appointments and one reappointment have also been announced of Public Members for APEGGA boards and committees having provision for such appointees.


George Jones, P.Ag, of Sherwood Park, a Public Member of the Appeal Board since 1997, has been re-appointed for a further two years.

Phil Lulman, founder and operator of P L Earth Systems Inc., a Calgary environmental consulting business, has been named to the Investigative Committee for three years.

Michael Day, a former city manager in Red Deer and former president and general manager of Redpath Consultants, a division of Redpath Sugars Ltd., will serve three years on the Practice Review Board.

Norm Mattson, ALS, of Edmonton, a former president of the Alberta Land Surveyors Association and vice-president of Focus Urban Consulting, is named to the Discipline Committee for three years.

John Railton, PhD, of Calgary holds a doctorate in biology and has worked with a number of consulting firms and TransAlta as an expert in environmental assessment and regulatory affairs. He is to serve three years on the Board of Examiners.
