CEA Announces Award Winners In Glitz, Glamour Showcase
Awards Feature Hollywood Theme
The stars of Hollywood - or glamorous facsimiles - met the stars of Alberta's
consulting engineering industry, Feb. 2 at Fantasyland Hotel in West Edmonton
Mall. This year's Showcase Awards of the Consulting Engineers of Alberta
provided winners, nominees and supporters the red-carpet treatment, replete
with actors portraying Marilyn Monroe, Veronica Lake, Ava Gardner, Charlie
Chaplin and assorted flash-popping paparazzi.
About 500 people raided each other's stick-on tags, with the names of
various stars, to fill out their contest sheets. They then sat down to
an entrée of ostrich, the announcement of Alberta's best consulting
projects (with UMA Engineering Ltd., CH2M Hill Canada Ltd. and Stantec
Consulting Ltd. taking home the most awards) and the wacky musical impersonations
of the band Webster and Company.
The CEA Showcase Awards program was initiated in 1997 to recognize the
vision, achievement and contribution of Alberta consulting firms and their
clients to the engineering field. Winners are decided on projects' added
value, benefit to society, risk management, technical excellence, difficulty,
innovation and advancement of technology. The complete list of this year's
