Thomas Earl Staples, P.Eng., a manager and a University
of Alberta civil engineering graduate, died unexpectedly
in Fort McMurray on Jan. 2 at 45 years of age. Mr. Staples
was the manager of geotechnical/material services for McMurray
Resources (Research & Testing) Ltd.
Mr. Staples played a key role in growing MRRT because of
his immaculate nature and common sense, says a eulogy given
by his colleague Pat Little. “I could write a report,
check it twice or more, only for Tom to spot the mistakes
within seconds. He was always very professional, organized
and detailed,” said Mr. Little.
Mr. Staples’ career took him from Edmonton to Yellowknife,
from Dawson Creek to Fort McMurray. They were good places
to live for a man who enjoyed fishing, camping and snowmobiling.
Mr. Staples, also an ardent golfer, jumped into all his endeavors
with gusto.
“
Tom was a fantastic person and will be deeply missed,” Mr.
Little said.
Mr. Staples is survived by his parents, his brothers and
sisters, and numerous friends and other relatives. Memorial
donations may be made to the Foundation for the Northern
Lights Health Centre, 7 Hospital St., Fort McMurray, T9H
1P2.
