The Alberta Emerald Foundation for Environmental Excellence
once again needs information on the Alberta people, companies,
community groups and other organizations that give the environment
an extra helping of care and attention. For its 12th annual
Emerald Awards, the foundation seeks nominations of those
who have "demonstrated excellence in activities to protect,
preserve, enhance and sustain our environment."
Nominations can be made in a variety of categories, among
them small or large business, corporate or institutional leadership,
research and innovation, individual commitment, not-for-profit
association or community group, education, government institution
and climate change. A new youth award will recognize initiatives
by young people up to the age of 25.
In order to be considered for an Emerald Award, a person or
initiative should demonstrate:
- A commitment to preservation, protection, enhancement
or sustainablity of the environment
- Positive, tangible and long-term impact on quality of
air, water or land, preservation of biological diversity,
or public or corporate attitudes towards the environment.
Where appropriate, judging will acknowledge efforts that
reflect collaborative, team or partnership approaches.
Nominations close Friday, Feb. 28. Judging takes place during
April and the awards celebration will be held June 11 at the
the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts in Calgary.
