2. MEMBER STATUS

2.1 Practicing or Non-Practicing

To understand your obligations with regard to this program, you will first determine whether you are a practicing or non-practicing member, based on your current duties and responsibilities. For the purposes of this program, if you have an influence on the practice of engineering, geology or geophysics, regardless of whether you are doing the detailed technical work, you are encouraged to declare yourself as practicing. The legal definitions of the practices of engineering, geology and geophysics appear in Appendix I.

If you declare yourself to be practicing, you should

  • develop a personal continuing professional development program
  • maintain records
  • submit such records if requested

If you have declared yourself as non-practicing, you have the choice of opting out of the continuing professional development program while still retaining your professional designation. You remain bound by the Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions (EGGP) Act, Regulations, Bylaws and the Code of Ethics. You may not take responsibility for a Permit to Practice.

2.2 Change of Status

If you wish to change your status from non-practicing to practicing you will be required to demonstrate sufficient professional development activity in your individual scope of practice (see Section 3) before resuming independent practice. The specifics will vary with the length of the non-practicing period, professional specialization and prior experience. APEGGA will review each case individually (see Section 6).
