Recent advances in Internet
and telecommunication technologies has
allowed for significant benefits to be
achieved by both industry and the public
sector alike. Whether it be a recent
project at Syncrude, industry-wide applications
for oil and gas, or assisting in the
emergency events of September 11 - these
technologies have proven to both be viable
and valuable.

The Edmonton Association
of Technical Societies (EATS)
was created in 1997, by a small group
of people from local technical organizations
who decided that there could be much to
gain from having the societies gather
to share information, partner meetings,
etc..
The mandate of the organization is
"...to collectively share information
and to co-ordinate and promote technical
and social activities to facilitate networking
and learning opportunities." The
individual societies have found that sharing
information and partnering on speakers
or tours has increased marketing and has
enabled the societies to bring in better
speakers and increase attendance. All
Edmonton area technical societies are
members of EATS.
The Association of Professional Engineers,
Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta
(APEGGA) and The Alberta Society of Engineering
Technologists (ASET) are pleased to work
in partnership with the Edmonton Association
of Technical Societies (EATS) to co-ordinate
its annual dinner meeting in the fall.
The annual dinner meeting is scheduled
for the first Thursday in November.
Many APEGGA and ASET members belong to
various other technical societies. While
the professional associations represent
the interests of technologists, technicians,
engineers and geoscientists as a whole,
each technical society plays an important
role in serving the interests of those
in specific disciplines or technical specialties.
APEGGA and ASET fully support EATS and
its efforts to provide a valuable forum
for discussion and the exchange of views
among all members of Alberta's diverse
technical disciplines.
