National Engineering and Geoscience Week 2003:
Engineering and Geoscience - Visions of Things to Come
The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists
of Alberta (APEGGA) is celebrating National Engineering and Geoscience
Week (NEW), March 1-9, 2003.
Engineering and Geoscience - Visions of Things to Come is the theme
for the 11th Annual NEW. This theme reflects the hopes, aspirations,
talents and abilities of our professionals.
Events during this week raise awareness of the important role engineering
and geoscience play in the lives of Canadians. NEW celebrates professional
achievements and highlights the various academic and career opportunities
available to Canadians.
The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists
of Alberta (APEGGA), along with other Canadian provincial and territorial
associations, will host over 500 events and activities in 2003 to
help elementary, junior and senior high school students discover
the exciting worlds of science and math.
National Engineering and Geoscience Week is filled with opportunities
to share engineering, geoscience, math and science among our nation's
youth and general public. Activities across the country include visiting
classrooms, organizing tours of interesting local engineering/geoscience
projects, hosting an "professional for the day", developing
engineering/geoscience contests, etc.
APEGGA regulates the practice of engineering, geology and geophysics
in Alberta. The Association's authority is derived from provincial
statute. Now with more than 37,000 members, APEGGA has served the
public and its members since 1920.
