All industries can best cope with the demands of today’s continually changing environment through management by projects. Project management techniques have been used successfully in a wide range of fields such as engineering and construction projects, product development, entertainment events, software development and organizational change.

OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this course is to introduce an effective project management framework which can be usefully applied to technical and non-technical projects.

Upon completing this seminar, participants will be able to:
Formulate and communicate project plans effectively; Organize and lead a project team; Apply techniques of project control; Apply effective project monitoring and evaluation techniques; and Build and sustain project teams.

  • Project success and failure.

  • Project Management Framework.

  • Defining the project: project goals and objectives, problems/opportunities, assumptions and risks, stakeholder management, project Charter.

  • Planning the project: WBS project activities, estimating time and costs, sequencing activities, RACI Charts Organizing the project: personnel needs and recruitment, leadership, building, maintaining and motivating the project team.

  • Project team building.

  • Controlling the project: control time, cost, relationship, changes.

  • Closing the project: client acceptance, documentation and lessons learned.

STRUCTURE

Participants will have an opportunity to discuss the use of several tools that are essential for successful project management. Using case studies, workshops exercises, participants will apply their knowledge of project management tools and skills to practical problems.


PRESENTER
George Jergeas, Ph.D., P.Eng.

George has a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Baghdad Tech. Univ. and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Loughborough Univ. of Tech. in the UK. His major areas of expertise are in project management, claims and disputes, dispute resolution and teambuilding. George gained this experience while working in infrastructure civil engineering and building projects.
