The Association reaches out to the community through its communications activities and special events, awards and Outreach activities.
These programs raise awareness of the contributions made by engineers, geologists and geophysicists to the economy and quality of life in Alberta and globally through the application of science and technology, promote engineering, geology and geophysics careers, promote interest in science, math and technology in Grades 1 to 12 as a step leading to science careers.
By bringing attention to its professions through a variety of programs and
activities, APEGGA encourages and nurtures an appreciation and interest in science
and technology in students and adults.
IN THE CLASSROOM, IN THE COMMUNITY
Teachers can contact APEGGA for:
science curriculum presentations that bridge the gap between real-world and classroom theory,
career day booths, presentations and information on engineering and the geosciences,
judges for science events,
presentations for teacher professional development days.
APEGGA also assists in the development of math and science curricula and recognizes the vital role teachers play in sparking interest in science and math. Each year the APEGGA Teacher Awards program recognizes fourteen Alberta teachers for their excellence in science and math education.
Science Olympics competitions, math contests, summer science camps, regional science fairs are some of the events APEGGA sponsors and further supports with member volunteers.
APEGGA also collaborates with other groups and organizations in the delivery of science related programs for students and the general public.
Advertising in magazines and newspapers also promotes awareness of the contributions to society made by APEGGA professionals, and augments advances in science literacy in our province.
