Alberta Students Compete During the Annual APEGGA 2003 Provincial School Challenge Students from schools across Alberta are given the opportunity to compete against one another for prize money to be used towards the purchase of school materials and/or field trips for the first, second and third place winners in the province. Using limited materials, the challenges encourage students to think creatively. The concepts involved in the projects are based on principles of physics, combined with structural and materials engineers principles. All areas of science and math can be drawn upon. Teachers should tailor content appropriately for the age and grade level of the students. Students in grades one to six will use their science smarts to solve one challenge, while students in grades seven to 12 will compete in a more difficult test of their skills. The competition
takes place during National Engineering Week, March 1-9, 2003. Winners
will be announced and will be notified by phone. Overall results for all
competing teams will be posted on the Web site shortly thereafter. Background Information...click
