Act Changes Approved

The Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions Amendment Act (Bill 18) received royal assent on March 26.

The legislation, which follows up on motions passed at earlier APEGGA annual general meetings, amends the Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions Act by:

• clarifying the relationship between APEGGA’s Investigative Committee and the Appeal Board;
• delegating from Council to the Practice Review Board selection of those subject to random practice reviews;
• permitting acceptance of responsibility for documents by individuals not under one’s supervision; and
• permitting use of the Permit number rather than a corporate stamp to sign off work.

In additional to the implement of these Act changes, an Order-in-Council (145/98) issued on April 1, amended section 18 of the EGGP Act to allow complete implementation of APEGGA’s mandatory Continuing Competence program.
