MEDICINE HAT BRANCH LUNCHEON PRESENTATION CITY OF MEDICINE HAT - WASTE DIVERSION STRATEGIC PLAN Learn of the City of Medicine Hats - Waste Diversion Strategic Plan, 1999 - 2005. As a result of a number of initiatives including the Canadian Council Ministers of the Environment (CCME) recommendation that all institutions nation wide accept the national goal to reduce their waste to the landfill by 50% per capita. Current structure of waste diversion including: reduce, re-use, recycling, composting and the overall strategic plan. Status of City of Medicine Hats Solid Waste ü dealing with the waste management ü the need for increasing customer activity. ü the importance of education and price structure. Our speaker, Mr. David Leflar, LLB, is the Manager of Waste Diversion & Landfill with the City of Medicine Hat, Environmental Utilities Department. Dave has assumed this responsibility for overseeing solid waste management for the department and the city and has implemented the popular, recycling program with REDI recycling, composting program with Earthworks, the HazMat facility at the City Landfill and has undergone a number of well recognized waste management initiatives. Mr. Leflar reports to the General Manager of the Environmental Utilities Department and is actively involved with the Environmental Advisory Committee of the City of Medicine Hat.
