Elected to the position June 18, during CCPE’s Annual Meeting in Yellowknife, N.W.T., Mr. Hancock has served on the Council of CCPE since 1993 and on its Executive Committee since 1997.
Mr. Hancock is currently the vice-president of Western Operations for Canadian Stebbins Engineering and Manufacturing Co. Ltd., an Ottawa-based company that specializes in the construction, maintenance, and rebuilding of corrosion resistant vessels and structures.
A 1970 graduate in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta, Mr. Hancock holds professional engineering registration in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and the Northwest Territories. He is also a member of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and the Masonry Institute of British Columbia.
"The next year promises to be challenging and exciting," said Mr. Hancock. "We are entering a time of change for our profession as well as for CCPE. I am looking forward to meeting the challenges that lie ahead, and to leading CCPE into the next millennium."
Since obtaining his P.Eng. designation from APEGGA in 1972, Mr. Hancock has been an active volunteer on behalf of his profession. He is a past president of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC), and served on its Discipline Committee for many years; a past-chair of the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association Western Conference; and a past-chair of APEGBC’s Task Force on Registration.
In his new position, Mr. Hancock will chair CCPE’s governing Council as well as its Executive Committee, play a key role in policy development, and represent CCPE at meetings with other engineering associations.
Also elected to the CCPE Executive Committee were former APEGGA president Noel Cleland, P.Eng., of Calgary, as Vice-Chair; Bill Sutherland, P.Eng., of Halifax, Nova Scotia (Past-Chair); Walter Bilanski, P.Eng., of Guelph, Ontario (Member); and Pierre Boucher, ing., of Longueil, Quebec (Member).
