Date: Thursday, March 18 Horizontal drilling has become an economical technique for the exploitation of oil and gas reserves over the past 15-20 years. Continuous improvements in equipment, technologies, and reliability have provided the industry with reliable and economical alternatives for accessing difficult reservoirs and/or increasing productivity. This talk will provide an overview of the applications and benefits of some of the currently available technologies related to horizontal drilling, as well as some of the newer technologies that are being introduced to the industry. Mr. Pyear will discuss the structure and performance of the Alberta economy, as well as the business cost competitiveness position. As well, he will cover planned industry development including medium term growth prospects for Edmonton and northern Alberta with highlights on the spending and priorities of Albertas infrastructure program. Duane Pyear joined the Department of Economic Development in 1984 and is currently Executive Director of Policy and Business Information in the Strategic Resources Division. Over the past 10 years, he has worked extensively on a wide range of economic and business policy issues impacting on investment, business development and trade opportunities in Alberta.
