APEGGA has donated $10,000 to the Friends of the Oil Sands Discovery Centre in Fort McMurrray. The funds will be used to re-design the gallery at the centre. The future gallery will feature several theme areas, including: geology and exploration, mining, the environment, and the marketplace; a public resource room; and a childrens zone.APEGGA President Dan Motyka, P.Eng., and Executive Director Neil Windsor, P.Eng., presented the cheque on Jan. 21 to Mike Ashar, executive vice-president of Suncor Energy Oil Sands, who is chairing the fundraising committee.APEGGA has taken a leadership role in promoting science and technology, particularly the role of geoscientists and engineers, said Mr. Motyka, who was in Fort McMurray as part of his tour of APEGGA branches. On behalf of the Association, I am pleased to support the Oil Sands Discovery Centre in its effort to educate the public on the history, science and technology of Albertas oils sands industry.
