|
EDMONTON, Alberta - Members of Alberta's largest professional association embarked on a journey to the summit of success at a black-tie gala held last night in Edmonton's Shaw Conference Centre. The Association of professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) hosted its 8th annual Summit Awards®. This year's theme, Success Is A Journey, celebrated the professional accomplishments, technological innovation, and community service of APEGGA members. From oil sands research and bridge design to helping those less fortunate in developing countries, these professionals significantly contribute to the growth and prosperity of Alberta. The Summit Awards® were established to raise awareness of the contributions made to society by the 30,000 members of APEGGA. Nominations were received from Association members and industry. About 900 guests tried their luck at a funny-money casino, and danced to the swining sounds of the Tommy Banks Quintet and Sheri somerville during the Orient Express-themed gala. Established in 1920, APEGGA serves society by regulating, enhancing and providing leadership in the practice of engineering, geology and geophysics in alberta. Over the past several years, the Association has implemented a number of activities designed to raise publis awareness of these professions, as well as to inspire and encourage young people to pursue scientific careerws. -30- Note: A list of the 1998 Summit Awards® recipients is below.
