Edmonton (September '01) Grande Prairie will be hosting the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists (APEGGA) Council meeting and VIP lunch on Friday, September 14, 2001. 54 per cent of members from the Peace River APEGGA branch live in Grande Prairie. "Holding the council meeting in Grand Prairie recognizes the contributions that our professional members and permit holders are making to Grande Prairie and surrounding areas," says Dale Miller, P.Eng., President of APEGGA. In Alberta, engineers, geologists and geophysicists use their expertise in such areas as resource development, construction, public works, transportation, agriculture, manufacturing and processing. "It will be a perfect opportunity to become better acquainted with industry in the area," says Neil Windsor, P.Eng., Executive Director of APEGGA. "And to acknowledge the difference our members make to the profile and prosperity of the region." APEGGA is responsible for regulating the practice of engineering, geology and geophysics in the province of Alberta. APEGGA's authority is a statute of the province of Alberta, The Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions (EGGP) Act. Under the EGGP Act, registration with APEGGA is required to practice engineering, geology or geophysics in the province of Alberta. APEGGA has served Albertans since 1920; with over 35,000 members APEGGA is the largest professional association in Alberta. Association affairs are directed by an elected Council of 16 professional members and three public members appointed by the government. Five hundred member volunteers, working on committees and boards, support the organizations activities. As the administrator of the EGGP Act, the Association is accountable to the Government of Alberta through the Minister of Human Resources and Employment.
