While the Internet creates business opportunities, it also exposes
individuals or firms doing business on the Internet to risks. One
risk is being sued in a jurisdiction other than where they live.
This seminar will cover the tests that Courts in other jurisdictions
have imposed to determine whether they have jurisdiction, the measures
to avoid or reduce the risks and whether there are new types of
claims against professionals as a result of doing business on the
Internet. Secondly, Web sites may contain trademarks and copyrighted
information and individuals may possess electronic files which contain
proprietary information - both of which are susceptible to theft
or damage. This section will explore the individual or firms rights
in the event of the above.
