"Light Up The World Foundation"
Dr. Dave Irvine-Halliday - University of Calgary
LUTW facilitates the use of safe, healthy, reliable, energy frugal and affordable Solid State Lighting (White Light Emitting Diode) systems to light rural homes in the Developing World. The Foundation has been working in this area since 1997 and has brought light to several developing countries that would otherwise not be able to afford this kind of development. Recently with its' success the foundation has received the following awards:
· Rolex Award Laureate 2002
· Tech Museum Award Laureate 2002
· University of Calgary President's Internationalization Achievement Award 2002
Dr. Irvine-Halliday is a professor doing research in the areas of Fiber Optic Sensors and Communications and Biophotonics and has been with the University of Calgary since 1983. He received his doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. He is married to Jenny and has two grown children.
