The Horseshoe Canyon coals are a regionally extensive series of approximately 50 shallow stacked coals in an area between Calgary and Edmonton that are characterized by low gas contents and very low flow rates. General industry belief was that these coals were uneconomic up until about two years ago.
EnCana, working with its industry partners, believed that these coals could be made economic through the innovative application of new technologies. Over a 2 year period these coals were evaluated and new technologies were developed that have identified over 40 tcf of original gas in place along the fairway that can be targeted.
The May 20th luncheon will discuss the development of this new resource and some of the obstacles and challenges that had to be overcome, along with current challenges for the industry.
To ensure adequate seating, please pre-register with the Calgary APEGGA office at 262-7714 before Monday, May 17, 2004. The Calgary Branch now accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express for tickets sold prior to the day of the event.
