TOPIC: "How Do We Get There From Here?" - A Strategy For IP Management
"Intellectual property (IP) was once considered the most boring subject in the world. Until very recently, in fact, simply mentioning the words patents or intellectual property was guaranteed to invite blank stares, followed by an awkward shuffling of feet…"
Kevin Rivette & David Kline, Rembrandts in the Attic
Intellectual property management has become a new corporate strategy issue. Innovation, rather than "bricks and mortar" is rapidly becoming the principal source for economic growth and competitive advantage. This competitive advantage usually resides in a unique collection of ideas, knowledge, experimental data, designs, software and practical "know-how" which needs to be identified, protected and otherwise managed as a critical company asset. Developing an effective strategy for managing this asset will ultimately strengthen a company's market advantage, improve financial performance and enhance competitiveness.
In this session we will cover things to think about when you are developing a company strategic plan for managing your intellectual property - a plan that will permit you to effectively convert your discoveries, inventions, ideas and prototypes to new products, licenses or start-up companies while maximizing the dollar value realized.
This presentation will be of special interest to owners, managers, employees and investors of small or new technology or knowledge based businesses.
To ensure adequate seating, please pre-register with the Calgary APEGGA office at 262-7714 before Monday, April 5, 2004. The Calgary Branch now accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express for tickets sold prior to the day of the event.
