1. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting commenced at 12:15 p.m.

2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

MOVED by Judith Lentin and SECONDED by Ian Squires, THAT the agenda be accepted as distributed. Carried.

3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF APRIL 8, 2002, MEETING

MOVED by Terry Cooper and SECONDED by Francis Chan, THAT the minutes of April 8, 2002, be accepted as distributed. Carried.

4. REPORT FROM BRANCH CHAIR

4.1 Council

Please refer to the attached APEGGA Branch Chairs Meeting Report for details. Please note that the meeting date and location should have read: Wednesday, April 24th, at the APEGGA Edmonton Office - Boardroom.

Len mentioned that the piloted Mentorship program has not been cancelled but is scaled back due to lack of industry funding for it to be self-sustained; APEGGA, however will fulfill its obligations to those companies that have already signed on to the program.

Anil Gupta agreed to look into ideas of recognition for APEGGA long time volunteers – He will make contact with Shirley Layne, Special Events Coordinator, Communications and Public Affairs, to get additional information.

5. ADMINISTRATION

5.1 Business Plan

Please refer to the attached APEGGA Branch Chairs Meeting Report for details.

5.2 Budget

Terry Cooper handed out a budget spreadsheet and went over the details with the members present. Two items that do not belong are Network and Travel & Accommodation. They will be removed from the budget.

5.3 Branch Executive Orientation

The Branch Executive Orientation is now confirmed for June 15th. It will be held in Edmonton. Invitations are extended to all new branch members. Please RSVP to Len ASAP.

    5.3.1 Attendance

    Anil Gupta will attend. Patricia Huynh will contact Duane Peperkorn and Sheldon Douglas to provide them with details on the event.

6. CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS
    This item is put on hold until further notice.

7. SPECIAL EVENTS

7.1 National Engineering Week – follow-up

Please refer to the attached report from Carmen Killick for details on the Poster and Essay contests.

Carmen also coordinated a Provincial School Challenge for National Engineering Week to which an elementary school in Okotoks had won both first and second places. Carmen is looking for a representative to go to the school to present them with a cheque and each of the team winners with a certificate. Terry Cooper volunteered to take on this task.

8. PD Events

8.1 Luncheons

Next season, ticket prices will increase to $26 for Members/Public, and $13 for Students.

8.2 PD Evenings

There was nothing new to report.

8.3 Appreciation Luncheon

The appreciation luncheon is confirmed for 11:30 a.m. on June 5th at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel. Invitations have been sent to ticket agents and members of the CBMC.

9. SOCIAL EVENTS

9.1 Flames Game

    Please refer to the attached report from Carmen Killick for details.

9.2 Golf Tournament

Lynx Ridge Golf and Country Club was chosen to host the Calgary Branch Golf Tournament. A cheque of $500 will be sent to them as a deposit.
