Planning for the 2002 Edmonton Science Olympics
has begun. The Edmonton Science Olympics is an annual interactive
science competition organized by teachers from Edmonton Public and
Catholic Schools and sponsored by APEGGA. The competition allows
students to see first-hand how science affects our everyday lives.
Schools from Edmonton and surrounding areas
may enter teams in one of four divisions:
Division I - grades 1-3
Division II - grades 4-6
Division III - grades 7-9
Division IV - grades 10-12
The event includes projects that the teams
construct prior to the competition and bring with them for testing,
and spontaneous activities revealed to teams on the day of competition.
Elementary students will compete in three events over the course
of the morning, while junior and senior high students will be challenged
in five events over the course of a full day.
Teams consist of 5 students and 1 teacher
of coach. Registration packages will be mailed to Edmonton and area
schools at the end of November or beginning of December. If your
school is interested in participating in the Edmonton Science Olympics,
and does not receive a registration package, please contact the
APEGGA Public Relations Department in Edmonton at (780) 426-3990
or toll free at 1-800-661-7020.
Keep an eye on the site for important updates.
