The hybrid electric car uses gas and electricity to run. Just like a toy car, the hybrid electric car is powered by electricity from a battery. This is healthy for city driving because it reduces air pollution that a car makes when it burns gasoline.

The hybrid electric car also has a small gas engine. This is good for highway driving because it lets the car go farther. Right now, batteries don't store enough electricity to drive on long trips. If the driver wants more power to go faster, the electric motor and the gas engine can be used together.
