The Council may confer Honorary Life Membership in APEGGA upon any Professional Member who has rendered eminent service to the Association.
Mr. Larry Staples, P.Eng., has 30 years of experience leading engineering consulting
and research organizations. After graduating with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering
and an MBA from the University of Alberta, he joined the Arctic Group of EBA
Engineering Consultants Ltd., and then worked for A.V. Carlson Construction Corp.,
providing building science advice to design teams. As one of the original employees
of C-FER, he was instrumental in growing the industry research consortium to
a 60-employee R&D service company with an international reputation.
As Vice-President of Russell Technologies Inc., Mr. Staples led the spinoff of a high-technology business to inspect municipal water lines, and is named as a co-inventor on two U.S. patent applications for water line evaluation methodologies. He serves on the Board of the Pressure Pipe Inspection Company, a Mississauga firm that has won numerous Ontario and Canadian awards for exporting Canadian high-technology services to the U. S. and abroad. Mr. Staples currently heads the business development activities for the Prairie Region of Acuren Group Inc., Canada’s pre-eminent materials engineering and testing consultancy.
Mr. Staples is also well known for his volunteer leadership in APEGGA, spanning almost three decades, as well as with a variety of technical societies and community organizations. He lives in Edmonton with his wife, Moira, and they have four wonderful adult children, a great son-in-law and a granddaughter. He enjoys the outdoors generally and backpacking particularly.
