CENTURY OF SUCCESS

AGM Celebrates Past and Looks to the Future in Alberta's Centennial Year

With the anticipated flurry of exciting events marking Alberta's Centennial year, be sure to add this one to the list. Mark your calendars now for the 2005 APEGGA Annual Conference, April 21-23.

Our theme, Proud Past: Confident Future, celebrates a century of innovators. It reminds us that professional engineers, geologists and geophysicists have not only helped build and shape Alberta, but also continue to provide our province with a confident future by ensuring public safety and well-being.

Celebrating the impact of engineers and geoscientists on society and the economy, the conference is a forum for establishing, maintaining and improving contacts and cooperation between engineers and geoscientists from across Alberta. Our professionals are instrumental in translating scientific discovery into practical and profitable applications.

The conference is a prime opportunity for Alberta's engineers, geologists and geophysicists to network, share insights and learn more about the professions and their Association. Calgary's Fairmont Palliser Hotel and the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre will play host to the conference activities, which include two days of professional development seminars, the Summit Awards Gala, and the Annual General Meeting and Luncheon.

The AGM on Saturday, April 23, is the pivotal event of the conference. This is members' opportunity to become directly involved in the business of the Association, vote on matters brought before the meeting, hear about issues of importance relating to APEGGA and the professions, and present motions for consideration by Council. The AGM luncheon follows the meeting.

Professional Development Opportunities

Keeping up with technology and innovation is a challenge for every professional. Developing and maintaining communications, business and management skills in the workplace can also be challenging.

The professional development program, running Thursday, April 21, and Friday, April 22, offers seminars

in both technical and soft-skills areas. Conference registrants choose from six “streams,” each consisting of two one-day seminars. The two-day streams provide not only an in-depth examination of topics but also the opportunity to absorb and reflect.

Summit Awards

The Summit Awards Gala on Friday, April 22, is our social event of the year, bringing together leaders in the professions, business, government and education to celebrate and recognize excellence in engineering, geology and geophysics.

A special element of the pre-gala reception is the fourth annual APEGGA Art Show. Admire the creative talents of our members and their families — paintings, sculptures and photographic works make up the delightful display of artistic expression.
