The APEGGA Early Accomplishment Award

Anju Garg, P.Eng.

For her exceptional technical abilities, service to the engineering profession and, particularly, serving as a role model for students interested in pursuing engineering and scientific careers, the APEGGA Early Accomplishment Award is given to Anju Garg.

Ms. Garg graduated from The University of Calgary in 1986, and subsequently completed a master of chemical engineering degree at the University of New Brunswick in 1988. During her time at university, she was included on the Dean's List during her undergraduate and graduate programs, and she is the recipient of numerous academic awards and scholarships.

She began her career at Syncrude Canada Ltd. as a graduate-in-training in 1988. In a short span of seven years, she has progressed to being the successful leader of the Extraction Technology Team, a group of 35 people consisting of senior discipline engineers and project managers. Her rapid promotion has been based, in part, on her ability to excel in technical positions such as process design, operations and development engineering, as well as in leadership roles within the plant operation and project implementation environment.

Significant technical and leadership achievements include establishing several new and innovative equipment enhancement programs within hydrogen plant operations at Syncrude. These improvements have resulted in increased productivity, maximization of unit run lengths, and minimization of costs for the organization. She has been actively involved in facilitating the growth and development of her team to becoming a self-managing, high-performance work unit.

Ms. Garg's service to the engineering profession includes her role as one of the founding members and chair of the Fort McMurray chapter of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering. She has also been actively involved in encouraging students, particularly young women, to pursue careers in engineering and science.
